The SeaPC - a water resistant, dustproof, completely sealed, passively cooled CPU - is the foundation of VEI's integrated computing, navigation and communication system.
The marine environment is poisonous to computer systems vulnerable to corrosion, heat, humidity, vibration, impacts and voltage fluctuations. Desktop computers, even laptop computers, weren't built to survive such harsh conditions. "Marinized" computers are like "Marinized" engines - a makeshift solution, a few parts changed but nothing essentially different.
The SeaPC is an essentially different design. Mounted on shock absorbers to isolate it from impact and vibration; cooled by aluminum heat exchangers; completely sealed against the intrusion of moist air and corrosion, including cable connections sealed by O-rings, gaskets on CD-ROM, diskette drive doors and powder coated aluminum chassis, the SeaPC is the benchmark for marine computers.
